Summary:

Aims to demonstrate the feasibility of nearly-zero energy building renovation models in view of triggering large-scale, Europe-wide replication in smart cities and communities by 2020.

Main objective:

Taking on the challenge of sustainable renovation in urban areas, the cities of Vienna (AT), Aachen (DE), Milan (IT), Sestao (ES), Tampere (FI) and Bratislava (SK) have committed to renovating a total of 226,000m² of living space during the 5 years of the project, with the objective of achieving 40 to 80% primary energy savings per pilot district while increasing the share of renewable energy sources by 25% by 2018. Gothenburg (SE) and Gaziantep (TR) will take part in the 5-year project as associated cities and will be expected to start smart renovation activities during project’s lifetime.

Summary:

The Vineyards Virtuous Circle makes profit of vineyards pruning to generate heat and cold for wineries. This VVC involves all actors of the biomass value chain: biomass suppliers from vineyards, collectors of biomass, and consumers of energy, with the supervision of an institutional guarantor: the municipality of Vilafranca.

Main objective:

The project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a VINEYARDS VIRTUOUS CIRCLE (VVC) as a local strategy to mitigate climate change contributing to meet the goals to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG); in line with the European Union’s energy-climate package also known as 3*20 and, specifically, boosting the increase of renewable energy production to contribute up to 20% of EU’s energy needs.

Summary:

The Graskracht project was intended to promote the conversion of grass to energy in Flanders. This project was mainly focused on the use of grass from roadsides and nature reserves. Grass is often seen as an annoying waste product, but it is certainly possible to use it much more efficiently.

Main objective:

Biorefine cluster interconnects projects and people within the domain of biobased resource recovery. The competence focus lies on the biorefinery sector: the refinement of chemicals, materials, energy and products from biobased waste stream.
